At Four Seasons Tree Care we look at trees differently. We approach every project from a long-term perspective, seeking to maximize the longevity of healthy trees while minimizing future liabilities. To do this, we perform a full-tree inventory and place trees on a schedule that satisfies their species-specific needs. Our proposals are created using innovative, web-based software that incorporates interactive GPS/GIS maps of each property. For more information on this revolutionary approach, click below.Learn More
Tree Care Terms
There are many terms associated with tree care that aren’t fully understood by the public or many tree trimming contractors. We believe that when performing a quantifiable task, the terms associated with the task themselves should be quantifiable as well. Some of the more popular terms used in tree care today defined by the ANSI (American National Standards Institute) A300 are as follows:
This is the selective pruning performed in a tree to reduce the overall density of live branches. It should result in an even distribution of branches throughout the canopy of the tree. When performed, no more than 25% of the crown should be removed within an annual growing year, although there are rare occasions that violate the standard.
This is a pruning method aimed at removing non-beneficial parts of a tree such as dead, diseased or broken branches. The location and size range of the parts should be specified when removed.
This is a simple pruning intended to provide vehicular and pedestrian clearance. Clearance distance should be specified when this type of pruning is suggested.
This is a controversial type of trimming and is often performed incorrectly. Crown Reduction is NOT TOPPING! It is a pruning of the crown to decrease height and spread. The species of the tree must be considered before conducting this method of pruning as not all species will tolerate it.
This is a selective method of pruning commonly performed on young trees. It is done to improve tree and branch architecture and remove any deficiencies in the canopy formation. Dominant leaders must be selected for development when performing this type of pruning.
Palm pruning should be performed when fronds, fruits or loose petioles may create a dangerous condition. Live healthy fronds should not be removed above horizontal unless encroaching on power lines or structures.
